Global collaboration for Indigenous empowerment
Leveraging Impact Hub’s expertise in facilitating Communities of Practice, knowledge codification, and capacity building, “Unlocking Accessible Support for Indigenous Entrepreneurs” brought together diverse business support organisations and Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs).
In collaboration with the FSC Indigenous Foundation and supported by USAID and the Forest Stewardship Council, we aimed to co-develop a methodology ensuring an Indigenous lens for optimal support to Indigenous entrepreneurship. The initiative not only contributes to sustainable livelihoods for communities but also reinforces forest conservation and restoration efforts.
Over seven months, knowledge and expertise from various Indigenous People’s Organizations and Impact Hubs worldwide were harnessed in a global Community of Practice, resulting in the first version of the “Toolkit for Inclusive and Relevant Business Support for Indigenous Entrepreneurs.”
Objectives and next steps
The initiative focuses on fostering collaborative learning among Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs) and Impact Hubs, aiming to share best practices in supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs. One key outcome is the development of a comprehensive toolkit tailored for Entrepreneurship Support Organisations (ESOs).
This toolkit provides practical guidance on the optimal design and implementation of entrepreneurial support programmes specifically geared towards Indigenous entrepreneurs. By doing so, the initiative serves as a crucial starting point in fostering increased collaboration between IPOs and traditional ESOs, promoting a more inclusive and supportive ecosystem for Indigenous entrepreneurship.
