Accelerating the transition to a sustainable food ecosystem in the Netherlands
Discover how Impact Hub Amsterdam catalysed innovation and collaboration to transform the Dutch food system.
Abstract
From 2018 to 2024, Impact Hub Amsterdam spearheaded a transformative effort to foster a more sustainable food system in the Netherlands. By convening over 250 stakeholders through a strategic ecosystem-building approach, Impact Hub Amsterdam catalysed collaboration across sectors to address the root causes of systemic challenges such as nitrogen emissions, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion.
Working alongside partners including the Ministry of Agriculture, the DOEN Foundation, and Rabobank Foundation, Impact Hub organised 12 sector-shaping events, delivered 12 targeted growth programmes, and accelerated 150 purpose-driven food startups. Central to this work was the launch of the Food Innovators platform, enabling entrepreneurs to access vital networks, resources, and collaborative opportunities.
This case study outlines the methodology, partnerships, and key outcomes of this seven-year initiative—offering a blueprint for how ecosystem enablers can drive systemic change in complex, high-impact industries.
